About me!

I am Kavous Salehzadeh Niksirat, a research scientist and postdoctoral fellow working with Prof. Carmela Troncoso at the SPRING Lab in EPFL, Switzerland.

I work on the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and user privacy. My main research interest is designing technological solutions to mitigate multiparty privacy conflicts (MPCs) in online social networks. I also study wearables with a specific focus on the privacy of wearable activity trackers.

Before joining EPFL, I was at the University of Lausanne (UNIL-HEC), working with Prof. Kévin Huguenin (from the ISP Lab) and Prof. Mauro Cherubini (from the PET Lab). Earlier, I worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the HCI GroupEPFL, headed by Dr. Pearl Pu, from 2019 to 2020. Prior to that, I was a visiting researcher at the Center for Human-Engaged Computing in Japan, in 2018.

I earned my Ph.D. in human-computer interaction (HCI) under the supervision of Prof. Xiangshi Ren from Kochi University of Technology, Japan, in 2018. I was working on digital health interventions. My research aim was to investigate the principles underlying the design and development of interventions to improve mental and physical well-being. For my Ph.D. thesis, I worked on developing a framework to foster attention regulation in mindfulness practices. My Ph.D. thesis, “An Empirical Investigation of Human-Engaged Computing through Mindfulness-based Mobile Applications”, is available here.

Please check out the Projects and Publications page for more details about my research.
