I am Dr. Kavous Salehzadeh Niksirat, a research scientist and postdoctoral fellow working with Prof. Carmela Troncoso at the SPRING Lab in École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne EPFL, Switzerland.
My research lies at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and user privacy. I focus on designing technological solutions to address multiparty privacy conflicts (MPCs) in online social networks and studying privacy challenges associated with wearable devices, particularly activity trackers.
Before joining EPFL, I conducted research at the University of Lausanne (UNIL-HEC) with Prof. Kévin Huguenin (ISP Lab) and Prof. Mauro Cherubini (PET Lab). Prior to that, I was a postdoctoral fellow at EPFL’s HCI Group, led by Dr. Pearl Pu, from 2019 to 2020. In 2018, I was a visiting researcher at the Center for Human-Engaged Computing, Japan, where I deepened my engagement with user-centered design principles.
I earned my Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) from Kochi University of Technology, Japan, in 2018, under the supervision of Prof. Xiangshi Ren. My doctoral research focused on digital health interventions, with a specific aim to develop principles for designing technologies that enhance mental and physical well-being. My thesis, “An Empirical Investigation of Human-Engaged Computing through Mindfulness-Based Mobile Applications,” proposed a framework for fostering attention regulation in mindfulness practices.
